Ryder is a true reader now and he can read books on his own,
with little to no help. He loves that he
can read now and he is constantly reading books. We have a lot of board books and a couple of
sets of just-learning-to-read level books, and he picks them up and starts
reading on his own. He is very proud
that he can read now! He is also still
going full steam with Lexia, his reading program. He seems to have turned it into a bit of a
competition in his class. He seems to
have inherited the competitive gene from Janda and I!
One evening I was folding clothes in our bedroom while Ryder
and Vivi were taking their bath and I could overhear their conversation. All of a sudden, the conversation was serious
and Ryder explained to Vivi everything that he could about going to
Beeman. He told her all about class, the
classroom routines, the people at school, getting school lunch, recess and
arrival and riding the bus! It was a
very comprehensive overview! It was so
interesting to hear his perspective and to hear his advice. He told Vivi that
he is still shy at school, but he is working it out. I love that he was being positive about
working on something and learning and improving!
All of a sudden, Ryder seems so tall to me. I’m not sure if it’s just in my mind or not,
but it seems like he gets taller in fits and spurts. He is starting to outgrow some of his clothes
and it seems like her can reach all the shelves and high places in our house,
when he couldn’t before. He also got a
haircut this month, so that always makes him look a little older to me too.
For his birthday party this year, Ryder wanted a World of
Tanks theme. Not surprisingly, there
weren’t that many party supplies available for that video game, so I had to
make some things. Ryder helped me scour
the Internet and choose screenshots from the game to make decorations with, and
we got a few generic tank and party supplies things to round it out. He was happy with the overall effect, so I
was happy! He had a great party and got
some great tank presents! He also got
the game Battleship, which he has been playing non-stop. If I don’t have time to play before school,
he gets very upset!
